Seven

I was thinking about seven. I cannot see seven but I know it has to be real. After I ask my wife to hand me seven nails, she has the some amount of nails I was thinking of in her hand, but no seven. Did man invent seven? Did we discover seven? How real is the symbol ‘7?’
